“We have to trust in what we are being told and what we’re being advised. We’re focused on the game and focused on doing our job and our role. We want the game. It hasn’t changed our mindset, but you have to rely on is the people that make those decisions and the guidelines that were given and put our trust in that. They’re the experts and they’re the ones that have more information than any of us. There’s a big trust that Nottingham Forest is all clear and we have to believe in that.”

Monk on playing behind closed doors

“You want your fans, regardless of what situation you’re in; how good it is, how bad it is. You need your support. It’s a cliche to say it, but football is nothing without the fans. It’s not the same feeling, especially in this country.

“I remember growing up, all your career, as much as you play for yourself, you play for your fans. There’s always been a connection in English football.

“Some countries are a little bit different. But here in England you’ve always played because of the fans, you’ve always thrived off that and it’s what gets you, that adrenaline and buzz.”

On Nottingham Forest’s recent dip in form

“I think it's typical of the league isn’t it? There have been a lot of ups and downs for every single team, but what they are regardless of their form is they’re a top quality side. They’re in a strong position in the league, that’s their ambition for this season.”

On chairman Dejphon Chansiri’s support

“I know what I have to do. As a manager you have to produce results regardless of support or no support or whatever it is. But I have already spoken about his support and his want for me to do well and his want for the team to do well and the club, but regardless of any of that I know in my position as a manager you have to produce results and results are king.

“So, I have to use these games coming up to the international break and in the remaining games this season to put a consistent run together.”

“When I first came in here to where I look at him now, I think in my opinion he’s improved a lot. There’s still a long way for him to go and still things for him to improve on, but on the football side of it in terms of his contribution and in terms of him on the mental side of it and how he gets himself to a position in games defensively and offensively, his attitude towards it has definitely improved. I’ve been very, very pleased with him and he’s been a joy to work with.”

On Adam Reach’s toe injury

“Obviously in the place it is on his toe it’s the main part of the body you use to play football with. It’s been sore and very painful. Although it’s not a serious injury it’s in a position where it literally stops you from being able to run on that foot. You don’t just kick the ball, but you run with it. It just happens to be in an area that gives you discomfort. He’s had a period to rest it and has come back this week and there’s been no problems, no reactions and that’s a real positive for us. The soreness was right on the point where you’re going to use it the most. He felt there was too much discomfort and too much pain.”
