Darren Moore offers his take on changing room culture at Sheffield Wednesday ahead of vital fortnight

And Darren Moore has had to learn fast in a whirlwind three weeks as the man in charge of steering Sheffield Wednesday to Championship safety.

The Owls are set for a fortnight of hard work at Middlewood Road during which they hope to build on their impressive derby day win at Barnsley on Saturday and get to know the methods of their new boss, as well as assistant manager Jamie Smith and first team coach Paul Williams, in more detail.

The backroom staff will also have the opportunity to get to know their players more closely, who have come under attack for a perceived issue with leadership and mentality in recent seasons.

Moore’s two predecessors, Tony Pulis and Garry Monk, both suggested there were frailties to the Owls’ set-up.

Asked what he though of the toughness of the squad, Moore said: “I said that in the week when we played against Huddersfield and conceded a goal. They were very disappointed but I said to them, ‘If you're not going to win, make sure you don't lose.’

“We have built on that result today. What has gone on has gone. It's a clean slate.

“I have got no complaints with the players since I have come to the club. As long as they keep giving us commitment and keep showing they want to improve, I’m happy.

“I am really pleased for them that they get to feel that adulation from the three points. We get to lick our wounds and we get to work in the next few weeks.”

Moore took huge plaudits for his tactical approach to the weekend’s clash, disrupting Barnsley’s full-on tempo and utilising a weakness in getting his players in behind the Tykes’ defence.

“I’m really pleased for everybody at the football club to get three much needed points today,” he said. “We wanted to finish the week strongly and I thought we did that.

“Looking at the performance, we knew that we had to come here and be strong, resolute and dependable.

“I thought there were times in a frantic match where we put our foot on the ball and I was really pleased with the result.”
