Darren Moore on Jordan Rhodes' penalty shout, Sam Hutchinson's injury and Sheffield Wednesday's draw with Huddersfield Town

After Birmingham City’s shock 2-1 win over Reading the Owls sit nine points adrift with their chances of a great escape looking fanciful with 10 matches remaining.

In a performance that never quite got going save for Josh Windass’ first half opener, Callum Paterson’s own goal broke hearts and took their tally of points dropped from winning positions to 25 in the season.

To pile n the misery, influential defender Sam Hutchinson hobbled off, though Moore said it was too early for a prognosis.

“We definitely wanted all three points tonight,” he said. “I told the boys that if we can’t win games we have to ensure we don’t lose games and we did that tonight.”

On Paterson’s own goal he said: “It was a bizarre way to concede. If you look at the way we defended all night, we were pretty solid really apart from a couple of long range efforts when they were starting to get a bit desperate and were running out of one or two ideas.

“It was about us doing our jobs, but losing Sam at the time proved critical. He’s a solid citizen in there, he’s an organiser and he sees it.

“It’s something to work from in terms of the point.”

Wednesday were denied a penalty when Richard Keogh brought down Jordan Rhodes in the box shortly before half-time.

The Owls players were convinced but referee Robert Jones was unmoved.

Moore said: “I’ve not seen it, but speaking to the guys, they said it was a stonewaller. It would be wrong for me to say that I’ve seen it again and that it should have been a penalty

“What I can say is that in my view from the technical area, in terms of the contact made, it looked like Jordan got to the ball first. What contact made we’ll see and I’l get my own opinion on it, but that’s all I can say in terms of real-time from the technical area.”
