And while the future of Celtic-bound Owls youngster Liam Shaw was made clear in February, there’s very much still a job to be done in the present, with his current club flailing in the Championship survival race a full seven points shy of safety.

The youngster started the first two matches of Darren Moore’s reign at Wednesday but has been a bit-part player since, making his first start in seven in the Owls’ 2-0 defeat to Swansea City on Tuesday evening. Shaw, 20, came off after 64 minutes.

“He’s very much here and every player in our current situation is very much needed,” Moore said speaking to The Star after the match.

“I’ve beaten that drum with all of them, every single player. Because of the multitude of games and the short space of time we have, I need all of them available to keep that freshness and that impetus on the pitch.

“From now until the end of the season, we have games quickly and the whole squad will be utilised as best as possible. They all have to be ready.”

Shaw, a lifelong Wednesday fan, will make the move north of the border on pre-contract terms with the Owls likley to receive somewhere in the region of £300,000 in compensation. He has already outlined his determination to contribute to the club’s survival bid.

The youngster said in a statement released last month: “Until the last kick of the ball of the final game of this season, I will continue to give my all for Sheffield Wednesday and to help my team-mates.

“I work hard every day in order to make my family proud and I'll always give everything in training and in games. I'm determined to contribute as much as possible to the team, so we have a successful end to the season.

“Sheffield Wednesday is a massive and brilliant club and I'm extremely grateful for everything the club has done for me. The club will always be special for me as I grew up a fan and nothing can change that for me. In the end, I based my decision purely on the football aspects.”
