Darren Moore reveals truth on Ravel Morrison situation at Sheffield Wednesday

The Star revealed yesterday that the Manchester United academy graduate was training with the Owls as the new boss mulls over a move that could offer them an extra body heading into the final stretch of the season.

Morrison, 28, was released from his contract with Dutch club ADO Den Haag in January and so if signed would be eligible to play a part in Wednesday’s last dash attempts to climb out of the Championship relegation zone.

Speaking ahead of his side’s clash with local rivals Barnsley this weekend, Moore confirmed that former Leicester City full-back Danny Simpson, who had also been training with the club, would not be signing.

But Morrison is still under consideration, it would seem.

“Ravel is one that came on the radar,” Moore told The Star. “It’s something that’s being looked at but nothing has been decided. We know about his talent, we know about his ability, we know all about that.

“He’s come on the radar because he’s out there on a free and wanting to get in somewhere and play some football. We don’t doubt his ability but we’ve just got to look at it and consider whether he’s the right one for us. That’s all it can be at the moment.

“There’s been nothing but enquiries made on behalf of his representatives and the football club.”

The concern around the signing of free agents is on their ability to make an immediate impact. Morrison, an undoubted talent, has played only 226 minutes of football this season. His last appearance came before Christmas.

“We’ve had both players in, but nothing has been definitely confirmed,” Moore said.

“You look at that, but at this stage of the season in terms of free transfers, you don’t doubt their ability, it’s whether they’re in a position to contribute physically. The problem you have with them is that they’ve not trained an awful lot in an environment and usually it takes time to get them up to speed.

“There are free transfers out there, but it’s a case of whether they can contribute to where we are at this stage of the season.”
