Sheffield Wednesday fell to a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Barnsley on Saturday afternoon.

Here’s some of what Darren Moore said to The Star in the aftermath of probably their worst performance of the season so far:

Your take on the game?

After about six minutes I stood in that technical area and thought we weren’t quite there… I started making changes to see if I could get some momentum in the game.

Even though we weren’t as good as we should’ve been, we still had two excellent chances at 1-0, and if they go in then the momentum gives us the lift that we were looking for.

But those chances just ebbed away, and so did the game.

If you could tell after six minutes it wasn’t working – why not make changes earlier?

They’re an excellent group of players, and when they hit the right notes we’ve seen how effective they can be.

So you want to get them in at half time, and rattle them a little bit. You want to show them areas they can exploit, which we did.

But you get a sense in the first five or ten minutes of the second half, then you try and get energy onto the pitch, and that’s what we tried to do.

So you give them that time to see if there’s that spark there, but it wasn’t. So we’ll analyse it and pick it up from there.

What’s your style in the changing room after a defeat like that?

Sometimes there’s shouting if it needs to be done, sometimes there’s analytical work. But what you have to remember is that emotions are raw, so depending on the temperature of the room you’ve got to be careful.

What I like to try and do is analyse the game and review it on Monday. When it settles down you see things, and the players get to review it as well. The message can stick.

Sometimes if you give messages now it can go in one ear and out the other because emotions are high.

There were a few words said afterwards, but we’ll keep our powder dry until Monday.

Marvin Johnson has struggled to hit the levels of last season – does that worry you?

It wasn’t just Marvin. I think it was right across the board… When I look now, it just wasn’t there - that’s why I have to look at it.

If it’s one or two, that’s one thing, but it was right across the board. It was all of them, they couldn’t get going.

I’ve got to think that mentally, the week that we had was a real up and down week in terms of distractions. I’m really glad that the window is shut.

With that interest in mind, are those players fully committed to the project?

That’s never been in doubt… It’s not the players, it’s clubs coming in for them. I’m pleased that there’s interest because it means they’re doing something right - it shows the level they’re at.

The potential that we see in them, they’re showing it on a consistent basis. So for us as a League One club to have enquiries from divisions above, it’s credit to the boys.

It’s bound to raise an eyebrow, but I’m glad it’s over. Their commitment’s second to none.
