It had been largely thought that Joey Pelupessy’s deal was due up in a few weeks’ time, however it’s since been revealed that they had a one-year option to extend, an option that has now been exercised and will take him through until the end of next season.
The 27-year-old has spent two and a half seasons with the Owls since joining from Heracles in the Eredivisie in January 2018, playing over 70 games in Owls colours under the various coaches in charge – including 17 under Garry Monk this season.

Hide AdRevien Kanhai, of his management agency, Forza Sports Group in the Netherlands, confirmed news of Pelupessy’s extension to The Star, saying, “Sheffield Wednesday made it clear that they see value in Joey, and they had until the third Saturday of May to exercise the one-year option in his deal, and they did that. He’s pleased to be staying at the club.”
There are expected to be a number of changes at SWFC in the offseason as Monk prepares for a 2020/21 season potentially without several senior players, and re-signing Pelupessy will definitely give him midfield options as he looks to try and plan ahead.
The Dutch midfielder is thought to be one of the fittest players at Hillsborough at present, and he’ll be relishing the opportunity of getting back playing again later this month when Championship football returns to stadiums across the country.
