Fitness permitting, ‘Westy’ will hit his double century with a couple of games left to play this season, but beyond that there are still plenty of questions regarding his future as he draws closer to the end of his current Wednesday contract.
But while plenty of fans want to know what is to come for the 36-year-old, and the numerous others out of contract, he says the focus right now is on one thing, and one thing only.

Hide AdSpeaking to the media today, the experienced shot-stopper said, “Being brutally honest, contract talks aren’t really on anyone’s mind at the moment. People know what I feel about this club – I’ve been here a long time, I’ve played a lot of games, and that’ll never change. Whether we’re in the Championship or League One.
“There hasn’t been any contract talks, but I don’t expect there to be. We have more pressing matters at the moment.”
That being said, though, he did admit that he almost wasn’t here at all this season after falling down the pecking order under Garry Monk, explaining that he should maybe have moved on before Tony Pulis brought him back in from the cold.
He went on to say, “At the start of the season I wasn’t involved, and probably should’ve left… I had a few opportunities to go, and if I’m honest, for the first time in my Sheffield Wednesday career I actually wanted to leave in the summer.

Hide Ad“A few things couldn’t get sorted… There were a few options, and I did want to go because I wasn’t involved, I wasn’t even in the 25-man squad, so it was in my best interests to leave. I didn’t want to stay and do nothing. But I do love it here.”
So would be willing to stay, even if the worst happened and League One was on the cards?
“I’ve loved it here, and I’d 100% consider it. Of course I would. I’ve been here ages, and I love it.”
