High praise for Sheffield Wednesday supporters from former Owls striker Clinton Morrison

The ex-Crystal Palace and Birmingham City forward spent almost two years in Sheffield towards the end of his career, playing a part in their promotion back into the Championship from League One in 2011/12.

While he did spend two spells out on loan during that campaign, the pundit says that he ‘loved every minute’ of his time at the Owls, reserving special praise for the loyal fanbase of the club.

Looking back on his time at Hillsborough, the 42-year-old said last week, "I had a couple of good years at Sheffield Wednesday. I always look out for the club. I went there late in my career, I wish I could have gone there when I was a younger player and they would have gotten a better Clinton Morrison

"I loved every minute of my time at the club and I met some great people. They were great fans to play in front of and a special club… Even if I wasn't scoring goals, they were always cheering me on and backing me.

"I will forever be grateful for their support because sometimes you go to a club and, if you don't score goals, then they can easily turn - but they never did."

Morrison was speaking after playing his part in a 6-6 draw – which Wednesday won on penalties – against Doncaster Rovers legends for the Eve Merton Dreams Trust, and he admits that hearing the fans again was a real plus point.

He told the media, "It was great to play in the game for a great cause. We have had difficult times in the last year and a half with Covid-19 so to get out there and be together and raise money for charity was brilliant.

"It was a great day and it was fantastic to have the fans back in the stadium. They made loads of noise.

"A lot of people watching football don't realise how much you miss the fans. We have missed them."
