On Tuesday night they ended a mammoth wait for a home win by beating promotion-chasing Bournemouth at Hillsborough.

And having lost four in a row, the three points picked off the Cherries magically turned into nine, with the news that an Independent League Arbitration panel had halved their 12-point deduction for breaching the league’s Profitability and Sustainability rules.

Needless to say, the announcement went down well with Wednesday fans on social media, some of whom got very excited.

However, on twitter, @BillyFensterFen felt it was a victory for all: “If rival fans stopped to think about it, #swfc winning their appeal is a good sign in some ways. This has shown the EFL aren’t above challenging and clubs do have some power in all this. Don’t be naive enough to think you may never end up in a similar situation.”

Owls fan @lewsouthy had already forgotten about what had been a shocking couple of weeks before Tuesday night: “Amazing how 9 points in 24 hours can make you forget everything wrong with your club. Same again Saturday lads.”

@matt_h4 was oozing positivity: “Can't believe what's happened in the last 24 hours What a chance now for the club to move forward in a positive manner. Huge opportunity now for Chansiri to get the fans back onside, Get that feel good factor back and learn from the mistakes made in the past. Huge.”

And @DirtyLyle has loft ambitions: “Promotion push starts now then! We’re Sheffield Wednesday and we’re on our way back!”

But @BeckyEls went even further: “Hell yeeeeaahhhhh!!!!!! This is frankly the best news I've had so far this year. A few more wins and we're back on track! Hotel and mini bus to Wembley anyone!!!??”

While @RussellGrayson offered back-handed praise to the chairman Dejphon Chansiri: “We’ll end up with points added on by the time Chansiri has done with them!”

@yana1867 added: “Wow! Just left the gym! I’m gobsmacked. If that doesn’t lift the players or the gloom around the club and our fan base, there’s something very wrong. It’s up to the Chairman to make sure we’re NEVER in this position again at #swfc.”

And finally, @RichLido made sure everyone stayed grounded. Webley? No, still staying up: “Fantastic news for the club. After a difficult few weeks, a win last night and a reduction in sanctions today heralds a fresh start going into the winter fixtures. This gives us a real chance at securing survival.”
