Wednesday first approached Doncaster Rovers for permission to speak to Moore on Friday, the day before they surrendered a 2-0 half-time lead to fall to a 3-2 defeat, their fourth on the spin in what is becoming an increasingly fraught Championship relegation battle.
The dramatic defeat may well have accelerated matters, however, and Rovers were told of Moore’s interest in speaking with the Owls on Sunday morning. Things moved quickly and talks took place yesterday afternoon.

His assistant at Doncaster, Jamie Smith, will join the 46-year-old in the Hillsborough dugout though it is as of yet unclear whether Moore is intending to make any further backroom appointments.
Moore’s was a name fleetingly linked with the Wednesday role much earlier in the process and was said to be intrigued by the prospect of managing such a big club, though no firm approach was forthcoming until the last few days.
He leaves Doncaster sixth in League One to join a fierce relegation battle with Wednesday, who are second-bottom of the second tier, six points shy of safety.
