Lees is a long-serving member at Wednesday and one of the players with the most appearances in the current crop, with his injury late in the season cruelly robbing him of the chance to make it to 250 Championship appearances in Owls colours.

The defender, who captained the club for a while prior to this season when the armband was given to Barry Bannan, has been a loyal servant for almost seven years, and twice came close to sealing a return to the Premier League with them in 2015/16 and 2016/17.

Now though, there seems a large chance that the 30-year-old has played his final game at Hillsborough, with the centre back one of many high-profile players who will see their deals at the club expire come July 1st.

Lees, along with the likes of Adam Reach, Keiren Westwood, Jordan Rhodes and numerous others could potentially leave as free agents, with Darren Moore currently in the process of talking to his players to see what the future holds for both them and the club.

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, Wednesday's Yorkshire rivals, Huddersfield Town, are one club that has shown an interest in Lees as they plot the way forward for next season, with the defender being seen as a potential bargain given his wealth of experience in the Championship and lack of a transfer fee.

Lees suffered a serious ankle injury against Middlesbrough as the season came to an end, and is currently in the process of trying to recover from that as quickly as possible.
