One of the latest names to join that list is Joe Bennett a player who spent a short spell at Hillsborough in the Play-Off final season of 2015/16, playing a handful of games on the way to securing a spot in the Championship’s top six.
Bennett almost joined the Owls on a permanent basis from Aston Villa, however the move was blocked and he ended up joining Cardiff City – where the 31-year-old has been even since, until it was announced this week that his time there had come to an end.

Luke Varney, who signed for Wednesday on loan on three separate occasions, is also on the lookout at the age of 38 following Burton Albion’s decision to release, however at his age there may be a consideration of the possibility of hanging up his boots.
Wednesday themselves announced the release of 10 players in their retained list last month, with only Joost van Aken (Zulte Waragem in Belgium) and Jordan Rhodes (Huddersfield Town) having had deals elsewhere confirmed at this point in time.
