Jeffers can get 20 goals'

Jeffers will play in the Carling Cup third-round against the Premiership side at Hillsborough as he builds up his match fitness though Wednesday have a few knocks and must change the line-up that earned the club's first League win of the season.

"Francis is a player who is capable of getting more than 20 goals in a season if he goes on a run," said Laws. "If he can get a couple to start with, I think he'll start banging them in.

"In every game we've played, he's had a chance to score; I think that's a good sign; that he's been on the end of an opportunity created for him even in games when things haven't gone well for the team.

"Match fitness is the crucial factor for Franny. It's important that he gets as many games a possible. When he's fully match fit, I can see him scoring a lot of goals.

"He's one of the best finishers I've see. He has the ability to get a goal out of nothing. He can do things like spot a weakness in a goalkeeper and find the relevant corner of the net.

"He has a quality that stands out a mile."

Jeffers came through the ranks at Everton and became an 8m player when Arsenal signed him in 2001.

His goal against Hull on Saturday - a marvellous shot from 25 yards - was his first since he joined the Owls from Blackburn for 700,000 in August.

Meanwhile Owls chief executive Kaven Walker has signalled that the club's move towards a possible libel suit against fans for comments on a website was made with some reluctance.

"This is not something we want," he said. "The club has not set out to be at odds with the fans but you have to remember that certain statements have been made about certain individuals that are extremely abusive and libellous... an employer has a duty to protect the integrity and reputation of its board and employees."

Walker has also revealed that Wednesday have spoken to "two other parties" about investment, since the talks with Carson Yeung and Paul Gregg ended, but "nothing has come of it."

The Owls are known to be still keen on attracting fresh investment in an effort to get back into the Premiership.
