Jeffers facing hostle reception

OWLS new boy Francis Jeffers faces a hot reception on his debut at Ipswich today.

He will get it in the neck from Portman Road fans for turning their club down this summer.

The striker was hotly pursued by Town but ended up joining the Owls in a 700,000 move from Blackburn.

Now Ipswich boss Jim Magilton admits that the return of the 26-old who hit four goals while on loan with the club last season will be a focus of attention.

And Ipswich players are eager to get to grips with their former team-mate.

Magilton said: "Franny being in their side might add a bit of spice to the game, but my players are looking forward to the match anyway."Franny is a top-clas player who did very well here and we did everything we could to get him here, but it wasn't to be."

Ipswich captain Jason De Vos said: "We have a job to do to stop him scoring.

"Franny is just another player.

"He was on the verge of coming here but it did not happen and you cannot celebrate anything in this game until the ink is dry.

"We must do all we can to stop him scoring, but he will not be the only Wednesday player we will have to watch.

"Football is a business and Franny has done what he thinks is best for himself, and Ipswich have done what they think is best for them."

Jeffers is said to have asked for 10,000 a week when Ipswich were trying to sign him.

The terms of his Hillsborough deal are unknown but his three-year package was certainly lucrative enough for him to step down into the Championship with the Owls.

De Vos played down the loss of the ex-Everton and Arsenal star: "We have brought in some good players and in Neil Alexander, Tommy Miller and Pablo Counago we have a stronger squad than the one we ended with last season when we collected a series of good results."

Jeffers could make his debut for the Owls alongside Marcus Tudgay, with Deon Burton likely to be out with a knee injury.
