Loan bid backing for Laws

The Owls boss is in talks over an undisclosed target and hopes to clinch a deal within the next 24 hours.

Laws also revealed that support for him had been expressed at a meeting yesterday with chairman Dave Allen, chief executive Kaven Walker and board members.

"I've been given the go-ahead to try to bring in a player to help us and give us vocal leadership on the pitch," said Laws.

"We've been negotiating, and hopefully there will be a breakthrough for us today." His target will be a centre half or a midfield player. He added: "It would be nice if we could get two players, but there aren't many leaders out there who are available."

The Owls chief added that the club meeting - which came in the wake of the 2-0 defeat by Burnley - had been positive.

"We're now in a position where we all have to pull together. Supporters are frustrated. The board are frustrated. I'm frustrated.

"Nobody could foresee that this was going to happen. Other clubs have bad runs; look at Burnley; they went 18 games without a win last season.

"Now's not a time for dismantling everything.

"They (the board] have given me every indication they're right behind me, and their thoughts are on how we're going to move forward. That in itself can sometimes relieve tension at a club.

"The chairman has given me his full backing, which is all I can ask for. He's obviously upset, as many people will be, but he's prepared to help to turn things around.

"It's part of the game that my position will be looked at by supporters and the media. I can't change that. What I can do is to do everything possible to change our situation quickly, whether that means changes to the team, or training, or our style, and even whether I should stand at pitchside during games or go back to my old policy of spending the first half in the stand."

Laws also thanked fans for not turning on the Owls at the Burnley game: "They were excellent, They were so patient. That's what we need from them. That's what true support is all about; it's easy to support a winning team.

"Every team has a bad patch and has come through it. There are still 40 games to do."

Laws says that Steve Watson's back injury has responded to treatment and the defender feels confident about being fit for Saturday's game against Hull.

Dave Allen has denied the FA charge against him and requested a personal hearing, the FA have revealed.
