It was a bad evening for the Owls as they were beaten 2-1 by local rivals, Barnsley, at Hillsborough – a first win for the Tykes v Wednesday since back in 2009 – and then there was some awful injury news to follow.

Iorfa hobbled off during the second half as Tony Pulis’ side were searching for a goal, and it was then confirmed afterwards that he would most likely be out for the remainder of the campaign and will be heading for surgery shortly.

Speaking after the game, Pulis said, “It’s a ruptured Achilles tendon, so that’s usually a long time. So he won’t be playing this season.”

He also said, "Dominic has been such a great lad since I’ve come into the football club, he’s been really desperate to play. I thought today at times he was very, very good, so to lose him now is a massive blow for us. I think he’ll be having the operation on Monday or Tuesday - as soon as they can do it.

“In training he’s looked like a Rolls Royce for us, he’s been that good.”

It is the latest bit of bad news for the club after what’s been a very tough season, and the defender joins the likes of Aden Flint and Jack Marriott on the long-term injury list.

Pulis’ wait for a win since joining the club stretched to seven games tonight as they remain rooted to the foot of the Championship table.
