Wednesday gave themselves a glimmer of hope over the weekend with an impressive 2-1 victory over Barnsley, and Windass played a big role in the win as he worked tirelessly up front as well as setting up the winner.
Some have questioned the players’ commitment this season as the Owls fell into a relegation battle, but the forward – who has seven goals in all competitions – says that they still believe they can secure their status in the division.

Hide AdSpeaking to the media after the win in Barnsley put them within six points of Birmingham City, Windass said, “There’s been games where we’ve just not been good enough, and lost, but I don’t think desire and commitment and work rate has ever been a fault for this group of players…
“If we’ve left it too late then we might as well not play these last nine games and go home. We’re going to keep fighting until the end, we believe we can do it and hopefully everyone else does to, and we can show that on the pitch… We all believe that we’ve got enough in us.”
The 27-year-old also spoke of the mental aspect of holding onto victory at Oakwell despite a late rally from the hosts, especially given Wednesday’s record of throwing away leads this season.
“Obviously there’s a part of you that thinks ‘oh, here we go again’ but in terms of the game itself, they’re the hardest opposition to play against in this league by a mile – with the intensity they play at, pushing high up the field and trying to play you offside all the time.

Wednesday now have almost two weeks between fixtures as Moore gets the chance to get more work done on the training ground, and Windass will be desperate to stay sharp ahead of nine huge games for the Owls.
