Luongo is struggling to shake off the injury and missed Friday's morale-boosting FA Cup victory against his former club Queens Park Rangers.

Wednesday, currently sitting in 10th position in the Championship, head to lowly Wigan Athletic tomorrow night before entertaining play-off chasing Millwall this weekend.

Manager Garry Monk told The Star: "Massimo has a groin strain; it is not a serious one but I would say he is unlikely to play this week."

He added that Luongo should return to full training by the end of this week.

Luongo has not featured since being controversially sent off in the Owls' heavy home defeat to Blackburn Rovers on January 18. He was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Lewis Travis.

But the Owls appealed the call by Australian referee Jared Gillett and the decision was overturned on review.

As for Kieran Lee, Monk is quietly optimistic that he will be fit to face Wigan.

Monk said: "Kieran has a much better chance (of being involved). He should be out there training (today).

"He got hit from behind at Leeds on his shoulder and carried it into the Blackburn game. It was just a bit sore so that's why he didn't play against QPR.”

Wednesday take on a Latics side who are second-from-bottom after winning just one of their last 17 outings.
