Thr 18-year-old has risen up through the ranks at Middlewood Road, scoring at every level as he pursued his dream of making it as a professional footballer, and Danny Röhl saw early on into his appointment at S6 something that he wanted to try and nurture.

So when he saw the teenager latch onto the end of Josh Windass' cross on Saturday afternoon to get the ball rolling in their 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers, he'll have been a very happy man. But though the Owls academy project was pleased with himself, he's already thinking about how he can add more to his tally.

"It’s indescribable," a smiling Cadamarteri told The Star afterwards. "it’s amazing. Scoring a goal is one thing, but to do it at a fairly packed out Hillsborough is just something that I’ve dreamed of… The goal was striker’s instinct, I think - I always try and get myself in the best position to score goals, and when I see Josh getting one on one with the fullback I know he’s going to beat him, so I just need to get in and around the six-yard box where I know it’s going. Luckily I was able to put it in.

"It all means a lot, obviously it’s what I’ve been working for my whole life, but while it’s a goal - which is a big thing - I need to kick on now and get one or two or three more.

"It’s a lot more different physically, because you’re playing against who could be double my age or double my size. But it’s just how you adapt to it. You look before the game where you can find weaknesses, and we’ve done that."

A couple of decades have passed by since a Windass and Cadamarteri last linked up on a football pitch, Dean and Danny doing so for Bradford City in the 2005/06 season, and while Bailey knows of their history he's determined to write his own story.

'I know they played together," he said. "But it's mine and Josh's time now." And who knows, if the pair can combine a few more times between now and May, maybe there's chance for a Wednesday comeback after all.
