Sam Reed has been on Sheffield Wednesday’s radar for some time now, and the young defender looks to be edging closer to finalising his move to S6.

The Star reported last month that the 20-year-old was all set to join the club having been asked to report for preseason training, however at this point in time it’s thought that discussions are still ongoing regarding his exit from Brighouse Town.

Reed, a left back by trade, was named in the Northern Premier League East Division Team of the Season in 2022/23 after a strong campaign for Brighouse, and he has consistently impressed at Middlewood Road during his time as part of the U21s and seniors.

With new manager, Xisco Munoz, coming in this week and taking training for the first time on Thursday morning, the youngster was seen training with the likes of Barry Bannan, Josh Windass and Co as he’s put through his paces ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

There has still been no official word from Wednesday regarding Reed’s situation, but all parties will be itching to try and get things wrapped up as soon as possible so that he could potentially even play a part in the preseason camp in Spain should he continue to impress.

He made 39 appearances in the league last season despite his young age, the second most of any player in his side, and attracted interest from a whole host of other professional clubs alongside the Owls – many of whom continue to keep tabs on his situation.
