Sheffield Wednesday legends and celebrities unite to raise money for Tommy Spurr’s son

The likes of Carlton Palmer and Deon Burton will be back on a football field this month as they do their bit to help raise money for Tommy Spurr’s son, Rio.

Earlier this year, Spurr’s three-year-old was sadly diagnosed with a rare form of kidney cancer, a cancer that had also spread into his lungs.

Since his diagnosis the youngster has begun intensive courses of of both chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and his family have been trying to find ways to raise money to make sure that he receives the best possible treatment.

The latest fundraiser will see former players take to the pitch at the Eco-Power Stadium on November 13th, and a number of ex-Owls will be doing their bit as they dust off their boots for a good cause.

As well as Palmer, Burton and Spurr himself, former Owls captain, Rob Jones, will also take part in the game in Doncaster, as will famous faces such as Thomas Turgoose (This Is England), Dean Gaffney (Eastenders) and Jake Cornish (Love Island).

Tickets for the event are on sale now, priced at £10 for adults and £7 concessions, with the money raised going directly towards Rio’s much-needed treatment on his road to recovery.

Spurr came through the academy at Wednesday before going on to make over 200 appearances in Owls colours, and will be hoping that many of those that have cheered him on in the past can do so again later this month.

The game is set for Sunday November 13th, getting underway at 3pm.
