The result sees Wednesday still languishing in the relegation zone, but the dismal form of a number of teams around them should mean that escaping the drop is still well within the Owls' means, with just one point currently lying between them and safety.
Speaking after the Stoke loss, Wednesday's caretaker manager Neil Thompson was quizzed on forward Josh Windass' limited first-team opportunities of late, and revealed: "The bottom line is, Josh is frustrated he’s not playing, but the lads in front of him have done a good job.
"Pato [Callum Paterson] and Rhodesy [Jordan Rhodes] have come in and done well, (Elias) Kachunga has done well, so he’s just got to bide his time like everybody. If you’re on the sidelines you’ve got to wait for your chance. When you get your opportunity you have to show what you can do."
“I’ve had a couple of chats with Josh about it, he’s frustrated but I’d expect that.”
