Sheffield Wednesday set to tie down former Arsenal youngster Josh Dawodu after positive talks with Darren Moore

Dawodu has been a regular in Lee Bullen’s U23s this season, and spent large chunks of the campaign with the senior team as they looked at him potentially taking the step up on a permanent basis.

The 20-year-old’s current Owls contract will expire at the end of this month, however the club confirmed recently that he is one of a handful of U23s to have been offered a new deal to try and keep him at the club for at least the 2021/22 campaign.

And the signs are good for the young right back, who does look set to put pen to paper on a new deal in the near future.

Ian Luck, of Synergy Sports Group, has confirmed to The Star that his client is looking to stick around at Hillsborough, and is currently putting in the work to make sure he’s ready for their return to work later this month.

Luck said, “He will be signing the new contract he’s been offered… He’s been really impressed with the new manager and is currently in a training camp now so that he’ll be fit and firing by the time he returns to preseason.

“He wants to stay, the goal is to force his way into the first team and become a regular. Josh is working extremely hard to give himself the best chance of doing that, we have had good conversations with Darren Moore and believe in his project for the future.”

Dawodu, who spent the entirety of his youth being developed at Arsenal’s academy, is thought to be highly-regarded at Middlewood Road and seen as one for the future for the club, so Bullen will no doubt be pleased that he’s eager to stick around despite the widely-publicised current off-the-field issues at Hillsborough.

Charles Hagan and Josh Render have also been offered new deals by the club, while Ryan Galvin, Lewis Farmer, Luke Jackson, Declan Thompson and Liam Waldock all had one-year options extended.
