Hide AdHe told The Star: "Being totally honest and realistic, my job is to work on the short-term which is the here and now.
"I have to try and help this team produce results consistently.
"Whilst you are doing that, you have a long-term view of how the team needs to play and how it needs to evolve and that takes time.
"But I am also realistic in my job that time isn't my friend and that's why I have tried to put the team in a position where we can immediately compete for points."

Hide AdThe Owls have suffered just three league defeats since Monk's appointment in early September.
"There have been a few areas where marginally it has not gone for us but I have tried to put the team in a situation where they can be competitive in every single game," said Monk. "The long-term is obviously to develop that and that takes time.
"In the short-term, we are trying to get results, build confidence and achieve what the short-term ambition is which is to be fighting at the top end of the table.
"The longer you get, the more you can implement the identity and what you eventually want the team to be."

Speaking to the press corps, Monk revealed his admiration for the Bees. Their strategy of investing in potential, developing players and then selling for a profit has enabled the West London club to pocket millions of pounds.
Monk said: "They are a great example of a club that has had a plan for the last three or four years.”
