Wayne Rooney talks about Jack Marriott as his Sheffield Wednesday future remains up in the air – he’s still at Derby County

Marriott joined the Owls on deadline day not too long ago, securing the number 9 jersey as he joined Garry Monk’s side in an attempt to bring some goals to the Wednesday frontline.
Fast forward a few weeks, however, and Monk had left Hillsborough and been replaced by Tony Pulis, although the new manager was unable to call upon Marriott after he sustained quite a serious calf injury.

Pulis confirmed after his first game in charge that the 26-year-old had returned to Derby for treatment, and suggested that he wouldn’t be ready to play again this year as he seeks to get himself back fit.
With that in mind, Derby do have an option to recall Marriott in January if they so wish, and Rooney’s comments suggest that they’re considering bringing him back into the fold.
Speaking to the media, Rooney said: "He has had another scan and he is probably another couple of weeks away from getting back into training.
"I will have to speak to the doctor and to Jack in terms of how we move forward in January, whether he is moving forward with us or with Sheffield Wednesday… That is something we will have to sort out in the next couple of weeks."

Marriott struggled for form on his arrival at Wednesday over seven games, and it remains to be seen whether he is in Pulis’ plans going forward or not.
