Jaden Brown, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Dennis Adeniran all fired home from outside the box in Wednesday’s 3-0 win over the Dale, getting the hard work done in the opening 45 minutes after Darren Moore had made nine changes to the side that beat Bolton Wanderers 2-0 over the weekend.

Job done, in a professional manner, and the Owls are in the hat for round three.

Bangers, bangers everywhere

For years Wednesdayites have spoken about that game away at Leicester City when Chris Brunt and Glenn Whelan scored absolute belting goals in the same evening… In terms of quality, you’d have to say that Tuesday night’s Owls trio went even harder.

First it was Brown with a set piece special as he finessed one in from outside the box on his left foot, finding the top corner with serious expertise, before Dele-Bashiru got in on the action as he rocketed one past Cieran Slicker – who must have frankly been sick of it by then.

Slicker would have to endure another one, though. Adeniran, after his beautiful strike against Sunderland, didn’t fancy being outdone by his two teammates. So as the picked up the ball on the edge of the centre circle, with the freedom of Hillsborough in front of him, you could almost see his eyes light up.

Just like Brown and FDB, his strike was unstoppable and nicely nestled into the back of the net. You won’t see many better goals in one game.

Hand in Glove(r)

It was a pretty big night for the teenager… Not only was it his senior debut for the Owls, but he was also asked to play in a really difficult position in that right wingback role. He’ll be feeling it in the morning, but Jay Glover will have really enjoyed his evening.

The 19-year-old didn’t set the world alight, by any stretch, but he was comfortable and willing down the right side, and certainly didn’t look out of place as part of the setup.

Not all good news, though…

While it was almost a perfect evening for Wednesday in terms of the result, the way the team performed and the goals that were grabbed, it wasn’t all good news.

One thing that Moore will have been desperate to avoid was another injury, but it wasn’t to be as Ben Heneghan limped off the field early in the second half to be replaced by Michael Ihiekwe.

As was the case with Lee Gregory against Sunderland, it may just be precautionary – which would be great – but there will be a few people waiting with bated breath to hear whether it’s something to be worried about or not.

After Heneghan, there was another issue for the Owls as Dele-Bashiru limped off and was replaced by Alex Hunt. He certainly didn’t look comfortable as he hobbled off the pitch, and he’s another one that Wednesdayites will be hoping to hear positive updates on ahead of the the League One game.
