A furious Monk tore into his Sheffield Wednesday players and accused them of ‘hiding’ during the shambolic reverse at Griffin Park on Saturday.

He also admitted he was embarrassed to be stood in the Owls technical area and that he was ‘lost for words’ after witnessing another desperate performance from his side.

The miserable defeat means Wednesday have lost nine of their last 14 games and are languishing in 15th place, having been third at Christmas.

And Warnock, appearing as a studio guest on EFL on Quest, hailed the performances of the Bees’ impressive front three Said Benrahma, Bryan Mbeumo and Ollie Watkins but said Monk was right to be scathing about his side’s display.

“Brentford’s front three can rip anybody to pieces,” he said. “I’ve never seen movement like it this season, they have been the best in the league at times.

“But Garry will be disappointed with some of the defending as well. It’s a horrible feeling as a manager.”

“It’s difficult and you've got to go and face the press straight after a humbling really and some of the goals he’ll be disappointed with,” he said.

“It’s a horrible situation to be in. We’ve all been there. You’ve just got to carry on and try and be positive.”
