With eight goals and five assists this season, no Wednesday player has directly contributed to more goals this season than the former Wigan Athletic man, and while this season has not gone well from a club perspective, he’ll be relatively pleased with his personal output.

But that’ll mean nothing if the season ultimately ends in relegation, and he has therefore set the side a lofty target of picking up maximum points from their remaining five games in order to give themselves a fighting chance at survival.

Darren Moore won’t stop ringing Jamie Smith – even after the Sheffield Wednesday...

They face Bristol City this afternoon, and have an eight point gap to make up with just 15 points left available.

Speaking to the club’s official website ahead of the visit of Nigel Pearson’s side, Windass said, “We’re in a difficult situation, a really difficult situation, and we have to win all five games to probably stand a chance – so that’s what we’re going out there to do. We’re fully focused and ready to go…

“We’re always prepared, and that’s the difficult thing. Obviously we’ve just not been good enough this season, and that hurts the players. There’s nothing I can really say to make people feel better about the situation that we’re in, but we’ll give everything we can for the next five games. And that’s something I can promise.”

Wednesday face the Robins at 12.30pm this afternoon in an early kickoff as they look to try and close the gap on 21st-placed Derby County following their 2-1 defeat to Blackburn Rovers on Friday night.
