A 27-time England international, the defender played for Huddersfield Town, Leeds United and Bradford City in an illustrious playing career that spanned two decades from 1965 to 1985.
He captained his country on one occasion, against Australia in 1980, and went on to manage the Bantams for five years from 1982. Cherry’s tragic death follows the passing of fellow Leeds icon Norman Hunter from coronavirus on April 17.

Cherry had arrived at Leeds from the Terriers, his boyhood club, as a replacement for Charlton just months before his retirement.
A crowd of 9,331 witnessed an entertaining 3-3 draw with five goals scored in the second half including a late Cherry equaliser from the penalty spot.
The teams on the day were as follows; John Lukic (David Seaman), Kevin Hurd, Eddie Gray, Trevor Cherry, Paul Hart (Keith Parkinson), Byron Stevenson (Alex Sabella), Terry Connor, Arthur Graham, Duncan McKenzie, Gary Hamson, Peter Barnes
