Warne is already locked into the Millers hall of fame, having won two promotions as a player, two as a coach and two as manager.

But to keep his side up this season would rank as the best of the lot, given the circumstances his side have faced.

They are currently six points off safety but have a significant number of games in hand and are in the midst of four games in nine days, the second coming against QPR on Tuesday.

The Millers are always up against it in the second tier as their wage bill is dwarfed by 22 other clubs while the club have had to battle two bouts of coronavirus which hit the squad hard.

That means that beating the drop would be something special for Warne.

“It would be my greatest at the club.,” the boss told the Star. “Years ago when we stayed up in the Championship it was impressive, but there were teams like Stockport in the league. “This Championship is formidable and the gap now between the Champ and League One is pretty monumental.

“Three of the bottom four teams are Wycombe, Coventry and us and I don't think any one of us could have had a bad season.

“In crazy times, if we could stay up going through everything we have gone through with Covid and fixtures and the level playing field we have, if we were to survive I would be hugely proud of the group.

“Even if they don't I will still be hugely proud but it would be a nicer memory when I am in my 70s looking back.”

Warne has promised changes for the game against Rangers with must-win fixtures against Coventry and Birmingham coming up later this week.
