Wilson talks tough

MIDFIELD star Mark Wilson has refuted claims that Doncaster Rovers are not strong enough to tough it out with the League One big guns.

"I think that there are plenty of players in the team who can stand up and be counted," he told The Star on the eve of tomorrow's Yorkshire derby against Huddersfield Town at the Keepmoat Stadium.

"There are certainly strong enough characters to deal with anything that is thrown at them.

"The toughness is there but we've probably got to show it more and prove it to both the fans and the manager."

Wilson says that Rovers will have to show their battling qualities to overcome a Terriers side who have spent the week licking their wounds after being mauled 4-0 by in-form Walsall last weekend.

"It is going to be tough tomorrow, as every game in this league is, but I am thoroughly looking forward to it," he said.

"We are at home and it is a big pitch and if we pass the ball as well as we know that we can we should be able to pass teams off the park.

"We have spells during games when we play some fantastic football and murder the opposition but we haven't always been able to play like that for the full 90 minutes.

"Consistency has been a big problem for us this season but that is down to the players, not the manager.

"We have to go out and consistently perform at a high level every week and I am confident that we can all do that and start climbing the table.

"Despite our mixed start to the season there is only a small gap in terms of points between ourselves and a top-six place.

"But player for player there is no gap whatsoever between us and any of the teams in this league."

"With the game being shown live on Sky it gives us the chance to prove that is the case."
