Youngsters coached by GB hockey ace Barry

ENGLAND and Great Britain star Barry Middleton took time out of his busy schedule to help out on Doncaster Hockey Club's International Summer Coaching Camp this week.

The 23 year-old, who was one of the stars of the Great Britain team in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, returned to the club which helped launch his international career, to coach more than 50 youngsters who attended the two-day course at Doncaster’s Town Fields base.

Middleton, who played his hockey in Holland last season, demonstratred a range of skills during the course.

He was joined by fellow England international Matt Taylor, a member of the Cannock club, and new Doncaster-based England Under-21 international Tim Deakin.

New Doncaster Ladies’ coach Mike Taylor also helped out as did former Yorkshire and North defender Alan Stoves, who coached the ladies’ team in the top flight of the Natiional League for a number of years.

Doncaster’s deputy Mayor, Margaret Ward, spent several hours at the complex on the first day of the course watching the youngsters being put through their paces. She also presented the Club First certificate to officials.
