Heat is on as Tigers bid for play-off place

SHEFFIELD Tigers are facing up to crunch time in the race for a play-off place - starting tomorrow at Owlerton.

Birmingham, in their first season back in the sport, are the visitors with three massive points on the line in the battle for a top four finish.

And as added attractions, football skills at their best will be demonstrated by 'Mr Woo' and the Elite League Riders' Championship will be shown on screens throughout the stadium.

After tomorrow's meeting, Tigers head to Edinburgh on Friday - where they traditionally have a poor record - and the Isle of Wight on Tuesday.

Said Machin: "After these meetings we'll have a much clearer idea of whether we are going to make it. In an ideal world we would like to finish in the top two because that gives us a home meeting in the semi-final but there's a great atmosphere in the camp right now and we're all looking forward to it.

"Birmingham will be tough visitors, there is no doubt about that because they have been superb considering they are a new team with a new track, and I know they will bring plenty of fans up for this one."

Tigers will again be without James Birkinshaw who is nursing a shoulder injury from the home meeting with Edinburgh and will once again operate the rider-replacement facility.

"Our away wins over Somerset and Mildenhall at the weekend were massive for us and they have kept our play-off hopes alive," said Machin.
