Josie's double

BOWLS:

Derbyshire claimed two national titles at the English Federation championships that concluded at Skegness, including a third title in two years for Josie Tyers (Blackwell).

Tyers followed up last year's singles double by retaining the Champion of Champions singles crown with a 21-8 final victory over Durham's Hazel Butler, having been edged out of the two-bowl singles quarter-finals, 21-20, by Nottingham's double title winner Lilian Fletcher.

The other success came in the women's three-bowl rinks, where the Whitwell trio of Donna Turner, Chris Hopkinson and Pauline Marples romped to a 31-7 victory in the final over Northants, having lost their opening round match in the two-bowl version 21-17 to Lincolnshire.
