Mills signs new deal with Eagles

WINGER Danny Mills has given Sheffield Eagles a boost ahead of tonight's game against Halifax by signing a contract for next season.

Coach Mark Aston is also hoping to settle a deal to keep fellow outside back Rob Worrincy at the club.

Both players rejoined the Eagles this season - Mills from Doncaster and Worrincy from Super League side Hull FC.

Aston said: "Danny's been really strong and he's quite capable of being one of the strongest wingers in this competition."

The pair are two of the fastest wingers in the their division, with Mills scoring five tries in 11 games and Worrincy seven from five games.

On Worrincy, who also had a spell at Doncaster Rugby Union club, Aston added: "Rob has agreed to stay and I delighted that we have wingers with plenty of pace and a good try-scoring record.

"It excites me that we have the pace of the these two plus James Ford and Richard Newlove who can score tries."

The Eagles play the first of two homes games that close the curtain on a successful first season in National League One when Halifax come to Don Valley tonight, kick-off 8pm.

Halifax beat Eagles 46-8 earlier in the season and is the form side as the promotion play-offs near.

Aston said: They are fourth in the division and you'd expect that with the quality of players they have brought to the club.

"It will be a tough ask for us. We need to get back to the standards we have set earlier this month and put in a strong performance in front of out fans."

Hooker Paul Pickering is a doubt with a groin strain and some players who are on the fringe of being offered a new deal could be given a chance to impress.

"We have to pick the side we think will win but there will be some changes because we need to have a look at some players we are still considering keeping for next year," said Aston.
