Athletics: Run-Jump-Throw series starts in Sheffield this weekend

The first Spring/Summer RJT Sheffield Open Athletics Meetings is on Sunday, April 23 and continue on 3 May 3, June 6 and July 4.

The meetings begin at the SHU Woodbourn Arena, featuring entries from all over the UK.

There are four fixtures altogether which are promoted by Tom Grantham on behalf of City of Sheffield & Dearne Athletics Club.

At the end of the series, the best performance in each of the the run, jump and throw events, based on Hungarian Scoring Tables, will be awarded a prize of £75.

The voluntary officials at all the Meetings in the Series are from the Sheffield and the Northern Area.

Notable local athletes entered include Greg Beard, former international athlete and his son Harry, who he coaches and is the Northern Indoor Under 15 Shot Putt Champion.

There is also Ella Blakey (coach John Henson) the double champion at January's Northern Indoor Championships over 200m and 400m.

Promising multi-eventer Ruben Stovell (coach John Lane) Northern Under 17 Champion and third in the England Championships both at 400m features as does Jorja Turner (Coach Lee Walker) 1st Under 15 Northern Long Jump & 2nd Under 15 England High Jump.

Others include Isaac Marsh (Coach John Henson) Silver medallist in the Under 20 Indoor Northern Championships and David Chapman (Coach Charlene Thomas) 2nd at the BUCS Indoors in February.The action kicks off at 11.15am and will finish around 3pm.
