The unique events are the brainchild of Sheffield-based boxing promoter Dennis Hobson, who staged the first-ever drive-in boxing show at the same location in December under the Fight Academy banner – the name of his boxing promotions franchise.

After a successful launch and amid continuing issues around availability and restrictions with indoor venues, he has announced more similar, weekly events starting on Friday, May 21.

Hobson said: “Sheffield is full of boxing tradition and for me it’s still the home of boxing and I want to keep it there.

"The shows are packed with some quality, we have got a great array of talent.”

The first show will be headlined by Sheffield’s own IBO continental welterweight champion Anthony Tomlinson, who has won all 12 of his professional fights to date, which includes seven knockouts.

The former Stefy Bull-trained fighter – and elder brother of Sheffield United starlet Antwoine Hackford – will meet Wigan’s James Moorcroft in an ‘al fresco’ clash.

Another Sheffield fighter, Kane Salvin, will feature on the undercard in an eliminator for the English Super Featherweight belt.

Hobson said: “We want to get the kids out there before 21 June. I think we have got one or two with good potential who can get in the world ratings and maybe get a shot at a world title.

"He ticks all the boxes, does Anthony. He’s turned his life around and is a role model.”

Rotherham heavyweight Kash Ali will headline the card on May 28 with an IBF European title fight against Tomas Salek from the Czech Republic for the vacant belt.

Ali has won all three of his fights since he his infamous disqualification against Olympic medalist David Price in 2019, which remains the only blemish on his professional record.

The Arena’s overspill car park will be “transformed” for the events, which will have capacity for up to 600 spectators. Marquees will be installed around the ring, with table service for food and drink.

Hobson said: “There’s going to be a great atmosphere, it’s going to be a smashing setting.

"As far as I’m concerned, we’re back.”

Details about future shows will be announced at the end of April.
