Tomlinson hat-trick but Hallam let it slip

ON the opening day of the Northern Counties East League, there was a hat-trick for Hallam new boy Will Tomlinson but they had to settle for a draw whilst Premier Division new boys Parkgate began with a win.

Hallam let slip a two-goal lead at newly-promoted Lincoln Moorlands Railway and finished 3-3.

A goal behind to Ryan Porter on 13 minutes, Hallam recovered to lead as Tomlinson pounced twice from close range on 29 and 32.

It seemed the points were in the bag nine minutes into the second half Tomlinson was tucked the ball away to complete his treble but the home side hit back just three minutes later with a Rob Lund header and were back on level terms on 63 minutes through Jamie Spence.

Caine Cheetham got both goals in Parkgate’s 2-1 victory over Arnold Town at Green Lane.

He headed the Steelmen in front after 35 minutes from an Adam Fretwell free-kick and doubled the advantage midway through the second half, volleying home from six yards after Richard Patterson had unselfishly played the ball into his path.

Arnold, reduced to 10 men on 84 minutes when Fabien Smith got a second yellow card, scored an 89th-minute penalty.
