Ambulance, Millenium Hall

A JAZZ band, as opposed to a Royal Hallamshire Hospital blood bus... this lot are presumably the reason the New York-based band Ambulance - a very different musical prospect - had to alter their name slightly.

Aided by trumpet guru Eddie Henderson (pictured), this Ambulance bring joy to Sheffield's Millennium Hall, Ecclesall Road, this evening as the latest Sheffield Jazz season draws near to a close.

Bass star Arnie Somogyi leads a quintet of some of England's finest young jazz musicians, which includes Dave Smith (drums), Tim Lapthorne (piano), Paul Booth (sax) and Rob Townsend (sax/laptop).

They've been described as "specialists in musical accident and insurgency" and bring new work and special guest Eddie, an American lured into jazz by Miles Davis before going on to play with Herbie Hancock, Pharoah Sanders and Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers.
