Arctic Monkeys guitar raises more than £7,000 at auction for famous Sheffield music venue The Leadmill

The guitar which was made from the legendary venue’s old dancefloor was one of 36 items of unique music memorabilia which between them sold for nearly £11,200.

A signed photobook by the band went for £515, the coffin which Royal Blood used to make a spooky entrance at their 2014 Halloween show was snapped up for £500 and a signed George Ezra vinyl sold for more than £100.

Bethany Okogba, the venue’s promotions manager, said staff were ‘very, very happy’ with the total and thanked supporters for their ‘outstanding response’.

She told how The Leadmill is considering holding another auction and is ready to scour the store cupboards for more musical mementoes.

The auction was originally announced to help pay staff before the coronavirus lockdown was imposed, while the venue remained open but attendances had dropped.

The majority of staff have since been furloughed and the Government has announced a support package, but Ms Okogba said the proceeds from the auction would help cover overheads.

“We’re still losing money every week we’re not putting events on so this will make all the difference tiding us over until we’re able to reopen,” she added.

The lockdown has been extended until at least May 7 and it is not known when music venues will be able to reopen, but Ms Okogba said staff were ‘basically planning for the reopening party’.
