It is believed that the youngsters were taken through a window in the middle of the night, right under the noses of Nurse Nellie Nightshade and Simple Simon, who were asleep in the same room. Both were unavailable for comment, having been abducted themselves.
Nick Hibberd, a spokesperson for the Thurgoland Thespians said: “It is apparent that the babes were originally taken by two robbers, Horrible Horace and Awful Agnes, under the Sheriff of Nottingham’s instruction who wanted them dead. With the children gone, the sheriff would then be clear to marry King Richard’s niece, Maid Marion, and so become the heir to the throne.”

“I’m very pleased to say that later that same night the babes were found safe and well by Robin Hood, the man in tights, who had gone in search of the pair deep in the forest. This was after his team’s blunder became apparent when the hoods were removed from the Nurse and Simon, much to everyone’s surprise,” said Nick.
“As with all good pantomimes, the story ends well with Robin Hood and Maid Marion getting married, Agnes and Horace receiving a full royal pardon for going against the sheriff’s will and not kill the babes and King Richard’s own crown being saved from the evil Sheriff.”
