Masterpiece ballet is from Russia with love

TCHAIKOVSKY'S ballet masterpiece The Nutcracker is coming to Sheffield City Hall in the new year courtesy of the Russian State Ballet of Siberia.

International concert promoter Raymond Gubbay is presenting two performances of the most famous of the fantasy ballets on January 20.

Although arriving just the festive period, Tchaikovsky's enchanting score perfectly captures the spirit of Christmas Eve in the elegant surroundings of Sheffield's best-loved concert venue.

As night falls, we are transported to a world where toy dolls come to life as an army of soldiers does battle with a gang of mice and a Nutcracker is transformed into a handsome prince.

Formed in 1981, the Russian State Ballet of Siberia has established itself as one of the country's leading ballet companies and has built an international reputation for delivering performances of outstanding quality and unusual depth.

The soloists and corps de ballet are acclaimed and never fail to delight audiences with their breathtaking physical ability and dazzling costumes.

This memorising show is performed by the Russian State Ballet Orchestra, artistically directed by Sergei Bobrov with Anatoly Tchepurnoi as the music director and chief conductor.
