The all-women a cappella chorus have just launched a barbershop version of Sunny, the uplifting 1960s soul jazz classic written by Bobby Hebb.

Uploaded on to YouTube – search for Sheffield Harmony – and also accessible on Sheffield Harmony’s Facebook page, the fun-filled and light-hearted video features members of the chorus, their partners, children, a grandchild and various family pets including Otto the dog, Anakin the cat and Emily the hen!

Recordings were made in isolation by the 20-plus singers and video clips were filmed in members’ homes and gardens, in line with the current chorus safety policy of virtual rehearsals due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Their voices were united digitally by Stuart Sides, the director of No Borders Show Chorus, and the video editor was Ella Miskin of Starella Productions.

Sheffield Harmony’s management team co-ordinator Carole Hall said: “When Sheffield Harmony went into lockdown in March and started our weekly Zoom rehearsals, we hoped we would be singing together again by the autumn.

"We usually learn new songs throughout the year and, as summer slipped by and it became clear that chorus Zooming was the new normal, we felt the need for a fresh challenge.

"It's not easy to put a song together when you are all in different houses but we were keen to give it a go.

We pride ourselves on being a friendly, upbeat chorus so wanted to record a song that reflected the essential us.”

Talented Sheffield barbershop enthusiast Sam Hubbard arranged the four-part harmony.

Carole said: “When we listened to Sam’s arrangement of Sunny, we knew this was the song we had been looking for.”
