"The girls were fantastic, they carried on right through the day and came home covered in blisters!" said Lyn Hogg, mum of one of the players.

"It was a big day for the club and everyone was a bit overwhelmed by the end. But people were so supportive, it meant a lot to the team."

Gifts from the Sheffield Sharks and other local sports clubs plus donations from individuals helped the girls to raise more than 900 in the footballing marathon, held on the astro turf pitch at King Ecgbert's School, Totley.

The money is going to the Sick Children's Trust, which runs the Treetops Unit at Sheffield Children's Hospital. where parents can stay while their children are being treated.
