Clear message to litter louts

MORE than 250 litter louts were in Sheffield in four months as the council steps up its fight to keep the streets clean. Each must pay £75 or they will face court action. The fine is reduced to £50 if paid within 10 days.

Coun Ibrar Hussain, the council's cabinet adviser for streetscene, said: “We educate people through school campaigns, we have major advertising campaigns throughout the city and also used a reward scheme, all of which have helped keep Sheffield cleaner.

“But there are still a minority who refuse to deal with their rubbish properly and choose to spoil it for everyone.

“The message from us is clear - either put your litter in a bin or risk a 75 fine!”
