'Death threat' deportee fight

CAMPAIGNERS fighting the removal of an Iranian lesbian who faces almost certain death because of her sexuality if deported are waiting to hear if they may take her case back to the Court of Appeal.

The case of Pegah Emam-bakhsh had been deferred earlier this month and a new date for removal set for yesterday.

But Asylum Seeker Support Initiative members and other campaigners have learnt she was not removed after all.

Instead, they are waiting to hear if they have been successful in being allowed to appeal, or if a new date for removal has been set - giving her 72 hours’ notice of a new flight.

Supporter Ann Campbell said: “We hope, with all the efforts going on, we will not be faced with this situation.”
