Duo's towering achievement

THESE towering sunflowers have survived Sheffield's worst summer since records began to reach an impressive nine feet.

And after the wettest summer ever with record rainfall and little sunshine one Sheffield family think they may have grown the biggest sunflowers this year.

Holly Keable, aged five, and her two-year-old sister Amber planted the seeds in plant pots and then transferred them into the garden at their home on Balmoral Road, Woodhouse.

“We didn’t think they would get this big,” admitted Holly, who has not ensured the sunflowers have been watered and given liquid feed every week.

“They are very, very big now and they look beautiful.”
