'Fatal delay' by yobs

A MAN is to appear in court after an attack on an ambulance taking a stricken pensioner to hospital, where he later died. Paramedics fought desperately to save Norman Bell, 84, who collapsed from a massive heart attack while playing bowls in Ashton-in-Makerfield, near Wigan.

But the ambulance was attacked by youths who delayed the mercy mission by crucial minutes. Ambulance chiefs condemned the attack as a “sad reflection on society”.
