Horse and Jockey crowd mount their modern steeds for charity ride

HIT the road! Lord Mayor of Sheffield Coun Arthur Dunworth gave a ceremonial send-off to a group of bikers from Sheffield who took to the great open road to raise money for cancer charities.

The pals, all regulars at The Horse and Jockey in Wadsley Lane, Hillsborough, set off from the Town Hall, their destination Land's End.

The 10 bikers and pillion passengers, all from the Hillsborough area, have nicknamed the event The Jockey Run.

They are hoping to raise as much money as possible for Weston Park Hospital and St Luke's Hospice.

Challenge coordinator Craig Standrin, aged 38, said: "We have all had friends and family members that have suffered and passed away from cancer.

"We think it's something we need to raise money for so the doctors can do more research and prolong lives."

The riders were expecting to reach Land's End today.
